Dr Samura Kamara says Sierra Leone is not difficult to rebuild
SIERRA LEONE, Freetown: Former presidential candidate of the All Peoples Congress (APC) Dr Samura Kamara who is also the front runner for 2023 elections says that with the right leadership Sierra Leone will change positively.
He made this statement in an interview with Awoko on Monday about his plans for the country.
Dr Samura Kamara averred that Sierra Leone is not difficult to develop because the population is small and the country is endowed with riches, but do not have a visionary that will utilise all the riches to change the lives of the people.
“I have been working for this country for over 40 years and I have been giving advices and putting forward programs that will enhance growth, some indeed were utilised others not. But I believe in myself as I have the experience, the innovation and vision to change the cause of Sierra Leone for the better.”
He said for decades, Sierra Leone has been plagued by natural and man-made disasters, including a terrible civil war, Ebola, corruption, mudslides, and now the Corona virus. Sierra Leone, as a country rich in natural resources, used to be one of Africa’s top locations for excellent education, agriculture, and mining prospects, but all of that has been swept away by weak governance and massive corruption.
“Students from other African countries flocked to Sierra Leone in considerable numbers from the 1960s to the late 1980s to further their education. As a result, it was given the appellation ‘Athens of West Africa’ but tragically, that splendor is no longer with us.”
The intending presidential candidate for the APC in 2023 said, for all of these reasons, and many more, he is now generously striving to lead his party that will subsequently catapult him to State House so that he will be in the position to restructure and prepare the Sierra Leone population to contribute meaningfully to the country’s retransformation that he dubbed #BuildBack Salone!!!.
“Most countries in Europe, Asia, and America resolved to construct their nations through structured education, agriculture, health, and technology shortly after World War II ended. Sierra Leone will be driven to that position if I am the next president, because I believe to appoint the right people for the right job devoid of tribe, region or religion. No one tribe has monopoly of knowledge and it is when we come together as Sierra Leoneans that we will be able to make the country what we want it to be.”
“As a presidential candidate , Samura Kamara will promise the people of Sierra Leone that he will restore the country’s lost glory in education, health, agriculture, public sector, energy, and other priority areas, in order to enhance human capital and serve as a catalyst for the country’s prosperity.”
Talking about the ACC investigation, he said even though the investigation centers around him for reasons best known to the ACC boss, he has been getting the same testimony and he has nothing to hide. He said even though he is the center of the investigations, he has been reading in newspapers and social media that there are people who are paying back the money secretly.
“I was not in governance in 2019 to date when $4m dollars was expended so he has nothing to say about that and the ACC is not talking either about that money paid by the government that Africanist Press published. But I will continue my drive to reach the top because I owe the people of Sierra Leone to change their lives positively and ACC cannot stop me on that. I trust God and I am optimistic that I will reach the top and do what God wants me to in this our beautiful land of Sierra Leone.”
