The Deputy Minister of Education Youth and Sports Dr Algassimu Jah who is in charge of sports has stated during the football stakeholders consultative meeting that there are serious divisions in the football family and for that reason the country suffers
He complained that there is no unity noting that the two presidential candidates vying for the position are now ready to spend as much money, more than what they spent at the general election to win.
He stated that this amount of money should be used to develop football but they are ready to splash it around so that you vote them in. If that happens he said when that individual wins it will be difficult to control him after the election.
He cited an example for the football stakeholders saying that in the general elections some people were given ten thousand Leones and a T-shirt but they refused to vote for that individual they voted their choice.
He appealed to the stakeholders for the sake of Allah to make the right choice when voting because if they fail to make the right choice it will affect the whole country and God will hold them responsible.
He warned “if you make the wrong choice and your pocket benefits temporarily your mind will tell you that you have made the wrong choice and Allah will not forgive you the stakeholder for that.”
The Deputy Minister opined that the problem in football is not the presidential candidates but the stakeholders. “If you are united and make sure you come together as one family the game will take a positive change in the county.”
He mentioned that now we hear about AC Milan, Manchester United because our leaders in football are not united “that is the reason why most people look and talk about these matches.”
He stated that when he was a youth he only knew about our local clubs the East End Lions, Mighty Blackpool and the others “we need to come back to those days when Sierra Leoneans will be proud to watch their local leagues once again.”
