The dire need for drugs at the Health Centre in Taninahun town in Malen chiefdom, Pujehun District, coupled with the total absence of health workers continues to compound the problems faced by the ongoing Free Health Care Services now running into one year since its launching by President Koroma with funds from the International Community.
Speaking to Awoko News on the alarming state of affairs, concerned residents of Taninahun Malen complained about the non-functional state of the health centre which they stated continues to suffer from one problem to another, the most recent being the scarcity of drugs and the total absence of any of the workers, as one of them is currently sick in Bo.
The Pujehun District Medical Officer, Dr .Kargbo told Awoko that the problem of drugs is a nation wide problem affecting the Free Health Care, as there is always a mad rush for drugs since the inception of the programme.
On the question of the absence of health personnel for Taninahun Health Centre, the DMO confirmed that one of the workers is indeed sick, while the other has given birth to a baby, and that a new health personnel has been posted to take up duty
The DMO was quick to disclose that he is being over stretched as the District Council is urging him to open more health centers in spite of the fact that there are not enough health personnel to take up duty
Dr, Kargbo in turn said that all is being done to help cushion the situation.
