A Member of Parliament for Constituency 82 in the Moyamba District has warned against the politicization of Agriculture in the country.
Hon. Jolly Boy Lavalie is the General Manager of a private farming company, Arul Trading Sierra Leone Limited and is presently cultivating 1,325 acre land in Gbonje village, Moyamba district.
Speaking to Awoko in Taiama last week about his warning of not to politicize farming, he disclosed that when he was about to launch his agricultural project, he invited the Minister of Agriculture to go and see the farm but he said the Minister told him that he was on vacation in Tonkolili.
The MP further said he was told by the Minister that the Deputy Agriculture Director would be there but he did not.
Hon. Lavalie said since President Koroma has promised to be at the farm for the first milling all the ministers will be there..
He therefore warned that “you should not politicize farming. If I had wanted to politicize it, I would have told the Executive Director that, look since my party did not win, these people are not serious, so don’t come here”
He argued that it is only when politicians have nothing to deliver that they preach tribalism and sectionalism. “When I stand in any political platform, I am not going to tell people to vote for me because I was born in Taiama,I am going to tell them to vote for me because of what I have done”
The Minister of Agriculture could not be reached for his comment.
