The only disabled table tennis player in the country, George Wyndham, has disclosed to Awoko Sports that he is planning to create serious upset during the first Golden Jubilee National Open Table Tennis Tournament slated for 19-20 April, 2011 at Young Sportsmen’s Club (YSC) along Wilkinson Road in Freetown.
George said that since he started playing table tennis for the past seven years now, he has never played with any disabled person, but he is confident that he will win the competition.
Asked what he has achieved since he started playing Table Tennis? George said he has achieved a lot in local competitions, from junior to intermediate levels, and that recently in the Max and Sam Tournament, he was crowned runner-up in the intermediate level.
He said all he needs now is exposure, as he does not only want to play Table Tennis in Sierra Leone, and if given the opportunity to represent the country, he is sure that he will come home with laurels.
When asked about his relationship with the association, George said he has a very good relationship with the association, as they give him the necessary support
George said apart from playing Table Tennis he is the fastest wheel chair racer in the country and has been crowned National champion nine times.
He appealed to the disabled begging along the Streets and causing trouble to desist from such a practice and to try to engage themselves in sports.
