Social Welfare Gender and Children’s’ Affairs Minister, Dr. Soccoh Kabia has said his Ministry has presented the disability bill to the draft man’s office.
Speaking to Awoko yesterday, he said the assumptions made by the disabled MP, Julius Nye Cuffie that it was his Ministry delaying the bill was not true as he said since he took over as Minister, they have done more in the promotion of disability issues. He said one issue he had moved was the conventions on the rights of persons with disability.
Explaining strides in letting Parliament ratify the convention, he said he made several moves to the Foreign Affairs office to locate it and when he finally got it, he took it to President Ernest Bai Koroma and Parliament for it to be enacted. “We have worked on the bill and championed it and we have presented the draft Bill to cabinet for which I called Hon. Cuffie and informed him. He is fully aware of all that”.
He however said where the MP failed was when he went to the Attorney General’s office to inquire about the draft Bill rather than at the Draft Man’s office. “I will be a happy man as the disabled community if the draft Bill is released and sent to Parliament for approval” By Ishmael Bayoh
