The Director of Sports, Bai Kabia yesterday presented the Cycling delegation to the Deputy Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Algassium Jah, at his Bishop House Office at the National Stadium in Freetown.
The Director of Sports averred that as a nation they are proud of the Cyclists, as they were able to put Sierra Leone on the map.
He promised to work with any association that wants to progress; adding that out of the total money budgeted for sports only 80% of this money goes to football, not because they are outstanding but that this discipline could easily access funding.
He mentioned that in future, Sierra Leone would organize a similar tour; as the Country needs to grow.
The President of the Association and also leader of the delegation, Winston Crowther gave a brief report of the tour. According to him, this is the second most popular cycling tour in the world.
He lauded the efforts of the Director and Officials of the Sports Ministry for the support given to them so far.
The Deputy Minister of Sports noted that the cyclists have demonstrated that other sporting disciplines have the tendency to make Sierra Leone popular, apart from football.
