Authorities in Lower Bambara and Malegohun chiefdoms in Kenema city have put temporary stop to all mining activities and palm wine tapping until further notice.
Mohamed Koroma, from Weima town in the Malegohun chiefdom, told Awoko that the authorities explained that it was because of the frequent political violence in the chiefdoms that had compelled them to impose such a ban.
Mr Koroma said, “things are now becoming difficult in these areas as everyone is now sitting idle”.
When asked whether the action was taken on tribal lines, he said he did not think so because four out of every five in those places were miners from all tribes
