A high powered delegation comprising of the Head of Department for International Development (DFID) Mr. Dominic and the security coordinator Garie Holachar have held a successful meeting with the Mayor of the Kenema City Council Chief Brima Kargbo and Councilors of the Kenema City Council at his reservation road office in Kenema.
In welcoming the DFID boss and entourage the Mayor of Kenema City Council Chief Brima Kargbo highlighted several achievements done to Sierra Leone by DFID and other NGOs. The Mayor appealed to DFID to do everything humanly possible to help in road rehabilitation, improve health service delivery and youth empowerment in the Kenema city to ensure a poverty reduction strategy for every Sierra Leonean.
In his contribution Councilor Amidu Bah advocated for youth to be empowered and the establishment of a resource center for youths in the city, while Councilor Yatta Sama the chairperson for budget and finance in the Kenema city council admonished DFID authorities to take cognizance of women’s problem and requested for the reintroduction of micro credit for women, award of scholarships and health facilities to be improved at all levels.
Delivering his statement the head of DFID expressed thanks for the frank and fruitful discussion with the council authorities in Kenema city and promised that DFID will do all in its power to fight and reduce poverty related issues in Sierra Leone.
Mr. Dominic assured the councilors that DFID will concentrate more on the local council development and service delivering mechanism and the grassroots participation at all levels.
He disclosed that building local council capacity is a priority for DFID.
He called for unity and collaboration among all their endeavors.
Meaningful contributions were made by councilor Roland Berneth, Councilor A.B.Sesay and councilor Anthony Fonie all agreed to sustainable peace and the decentralization of local governance.
The vote of thanks was moved by Mohamed Salami Conteh the human resource development officer.
