The Deputy Director of Education Kenema District John Amara Swaray has called on parents, teachers, pupils and other stakeholders in the district to come together to stop corrupt practices in the school system. Mr. Swaray made this disclosure while talking to the press at his office in Kenema.
He called on the parents not to give any money to teachers in the name of Top up, Practicals, Good bye and Shake hand and that all results BECE, WASSCE and Class should be given free without any condition. He promised to deal with any school authority that flouts the education policy. Mr. Swaray called on the school authorities, the principals and head teachers to adhere to what the Anti Corruption Commission told them about corruption in schools.
The Director asked all school authorities not to admit any pupil to JSS who did not pass the NPSE or to SSS who did not pass the BECE Exams.
He disclosed that some schools in the district are operating the Senior Secondary School (SSS) without an approval from the Ministry and therefore called on such schools to return to their former Junior Secondary School status. Mr. Swaray appealed to the teachers to be God fearing people and not to do anything to their pupils and students which they did not experience during their own schooling period.
