The Minister of Defence Alfred Paolo Conteh has implicated the Office of National Security (ONS) over security breach of the landing of helicopter at the Choithram Memorial Hospital Helipad at Hill Station in Freetown.
The Defence Minister described the landing of the helicopter as illegal because the entire Hill Station is a no fly zone adding that even ONS knows about this.
He said “President Koroma and other VIP’s stay at Hill Station and no one has the right to give permission to any helicopter to land around that neighborhood without the notice of the Ministry of Defence.”
Defence Minister Alfred Paolo Conteh also said that the Ministry of Defence is responsible for the protection of the Country’s territorial integrity and if there is any need for a helicopter to land his Ministry should be the first to be informed.
“I have already demanded an explanation from the Office of National Security (ONS) about the landing of the helicopter and we are also conducting our own investigation at the Defence Ministry.” He said
The Minister said “I was shocked to learn that a helicopter has landed at the Choithram Hospital without the permission of the Defence Ministry and I immediately called ONS to enquire about it but the information I got was not satisfactory.”
He strictly warned ONS personnel to consult his Ministry before taking any security action on the country’s territorial integrity.
However Choithram Memorial Hospital has also issued a release stating that the management was not informed of the helicopter landing and there was also no patient admitted at the hospital for evacuation.
