Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – In a notable show of support, Dede Abu, former East End Lions player and Technical Director of the club, once again boosted the Women’s Premier League Board with a trophy donation for the second consecutive year. The well-attended ceremony took place at the SLFA Secretariat in Kingtom on Thursday, January 11, 2024.
During the presentation ceremony, Dede Abu handed over the trophies to Madam Catherine Sillah, the Chairlady of the board. Madam Sillah expressed her gratitude, stating that the timely donation is highly appreciated, especially considering Dede Abu’s previous generous gesture last year. She emphasized that the trophies would serve as motivation for players and officials from various clubs, and she extended her thanks to Dede Abu for his continuous support towards the development of women’s football in Sierra Leone. Madam Sillah concluded by urging fellow Sierra Leoneans and corporate entities to rally behind the league.
Dede Abu, acknowledging the absence of Asma James, assured that his support to the board would persist, emphasizing his commitment to the cause that began last year. When questioned about the motivation behind his donation, Dede Abu explained that his goal is to contribute to the nationwide development of female football and give back to the football community to which he belongs.
The secretary of the board revealed that the donated trophies include awards for the highest goal scorer, best player, young player of the league, and the best defender. Additional trophies and medals are expected to follow in due course. Dede Abu’s open doors policy and continued backing of the Women’s Premier League Board reflect his dedication to fostering the growth of women’s football in Sierra Leone. BT/12/1/2024
