Local MP David Mundell was in Sierra Leone investigating whether the legal projects he led in Rwanda last year could be expanded into a West African country ravaged by civil war over the last decade. The trained lawyer received the backing of Sierra Leone’s President, Ernest Koroma, for his work and also met local groups involved in trying to make the legal system accessible to ordinary people.
Mr Mundell said: “Like Rwanda, Sierra Leone is a beautiful country but it has been ravaged by internal conflict.
This was a country where children were recruited to the army and were encouraged to commit some of the most appalling murders and violent war crimes witnessed anywhere.”
