Makeni, SIERRA LEONE – The organizing committee of the EBK-Trophy has announced April 27th as the new date for the highly anticipated 2023 grand finals between Ocean Boys Football Club of Makeni and Golden Dragons Football Club.
This announcement comes exactly 17 weeks after the committee resolved to postpone the final, originally scheduled for December 25th at the Makeni Wusum Stadium, citing unavoidable logistical constraints.
According to Tejan Fredickson Fatorma, the committee’s Head of Media and Marketing Officer, the venue for the match remains unchanged. However, when questioned about the star prizes for the winners and runners-up, Fatorma opted to keep the details undisclosed.
Fatorma assured that work is underway to finalize all aspects of the event, including the prizes for the champions and runners-up, as well as ticket prices and other related details. The EBK-Trophy, founded by a prominent figure in Sierra Leone’s political landscape to honour former President Ernest Bai Koroma, has garnered significant anticipation among football enthusiasts.
Similar to previous editions, the 2023 grand finals will feature two formidable teams from the Northeast region: Golden Dragons Football Club of Magburaka and Ocean Boys Football Club of Makeni. These teams emerged as champions of their respective zones after intense clashes in the semi-finals, securing their spots in the grand finals.
As the days leading up to the highly anticipated final unfold, fans anticipate a competitive clash between the Zone-B champions, Golden Dragons Football Club, and the Zone-A champions, Ocean Boys. Golden Dragons secured their ticket to the grand finals with a 3-1 victory over Hydro Stars Football Club, while Ocean Boys exhibited their strength with a 2-0 triumph over Conteh-U Football Club, the reigning champions of the 2021 EBK-Trophy.
