The National Cycling team of Sierra Leone has been invited to participate in the Tour de Burkina Faso next month.
The team was invited as a result of their outstanding performance in winning the ECOWAS cycling peace tour for the Mano River Union Countries for two consecutive years.
Speaking to Awoko Sports about the competition, the President of the Association, Winston Crowther said the Tour de Burkina Faso competition was Africa’s professional competition and could be compared to the tour de France.
He said the Tour de Burkina Faso was the biggest cycling competition in Africa which has been running for the past 22 years and that it also attracts competitors from Europe.
The President further stated that is a honour to be invited to such competition but they have a problem with funding.
Winston Crowther noted that they have approached the Ministry of Education, Youth and the local organizing committee for assistance.
He then disclosed that the Tour de Burkina Faso will serve as a testing ground for the National team as they would be going to Guinea in November to defend the ECOWAS Peace Cycling Trophy of the Mano River Union countries which they have won twice.
