Executive members of the Sierra Leone National Cycling Association have a paid a courtesy call on the new Director of Sports, Bai Kabia at his National Stadium office in Freetown On behalf of the executive, the President of the Association, Winston Crowther took the opportunity to congratulate Bai Kabia on his new appointment as Director of Sports and also highlighted some of the constraints faced by the association over the years.
He then briefed the Director about the two pending international competitions, of which the association intends to participate later this year.
He mentioned that the first competition is the tour de Burkina Faso which is expected to take place this month; citing that this tour is the biggest cycling tour in Africa. He further said that in November the Cyclists would also go to Guinea to defend the ECOWAS Peace Cycling Tour of Mano River Union Countries, which Sierra Leone has won twice; and as an association they have brought laurels back home, hence they should be recognized by government.
Responding, the Director of Sports, Bai Kabia pointed out that he appreciates his position as Director, and that he is aware of the challenges ahead, but however cautioned them that he cannot find answers to all their problems.
He noted that for Sierra Leone’s participation at the two international competitions, he would ensure that adequate provision be made by the Ministry of Sports to enable the association achieve its goals.
In preparation for the Tour de Burkina Faso the association would organized a trial starting from the National Stadium to Maisaka, to end at Cline Town in the eastern part of the City; with about twenty (20) cyclists expected to participate.
