
Score of people lined the streets of Freetown to watch as the containers carrying the promised 15 megawatt electricity generating machines were paraded through the streets.
Supporters of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) party dressed in specially printed T-Shirts with “Welcome Koroma electricity” emblazoned in red in the front and “Bye Bye Kabbah tiger” on the back danced through the streets with mega phones heralding the arrival of the generators
Earlier in the day the Minister of Energy and Power, Haja Afsatu Kabba, her deputy Mr Martin Bash Kamara, the General Manager of the National Power Authority (NPA) Dr Zubairu Kaloko, the chairman of the Presidential Energy Emergency Task Force Dr Lancelot Lake and other delegations received some of the 15 Mega Watts Power Plants machine from the Global Trading Company on Tuesday at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay.
The machines with CAT Rental Power labelled on it were said to be designated for the Kingtom Power Station to supply electricity to the West end of Freetown.
Addressing a large crowd who went to see these machines loaded in 31 containers at the Kingtom Power Station, Haja Afsatu Kabba explained that these were some of the machines as more are expected to come.
She added that with modern electricity in the country it will attract foreign and local investors, create jobs for the youth and women, improve on quality education and reduce the high rate of maternal and child mortality.
The Minister noted that where there is electricity there is hope, adding that electricity has a knock on effect on development.
Haja Afsatu Kabba maintained that electricity is key and a right which every one must benefit as long as you pay your bills and have the right connections.
The Deputy Minister Mr Martin Bash Kamara urged all and sundry to pay their bills and report all illegal connections, case of stolen NPA property to the Ministry.
The General Manager Dr Zubairu Kaloko urged all Sierra Leoneans to work so as to actualize President Koroma’s dreams.
The machine are currently being installed.
