The Regional Crime Officer east in the Sierra Leone Police Force Samuel Sanie Sesay has issued a strong warning to illegal miners in the region to stop their illegal activities now or face the embarrassment of the law which prohibit their action in the country. The regional crime officer made this warning after conducting familiarization tour with journalists at the newly commissioned police precious mining investigation department at the regional police head quarter in Kenema city. Mr. Sesay disclosed that the establishment of the unit in Kenema city was initiated by police to crackdown on illegal activities that are depriving the nation of much needed cash for development. He referred to the precious material department in Kenema city as an extension of the office in Freetown. The unit according to Sesay will work in partnership with officials at the ministry of the mineral resources in Kenema to investigate cases emanating from the mining sector.
