The peace and tranquility of Leicester village was rudely interrupted on Monday evening when thugs allegedly hired by the village councilor Margaret Saidu-Kargbo went on the rampage and start raining stones on houses along New London Street.
During a meeting with the Lands Minister and the village community to amicably solve a land dispute between the councilor and the community, a resident revealed that the councilor spoke about her house which was demolished by the Lands Ministry.
The source stated that the councilor revealed that a worker at the Lands ministry asked her [the councilor] to pay Le 20 million if she wants to build on the said piece of land, but the councilor allegedly said she refused to pay.
The source said that the councilor further alleged that it was because she refused to pay the said sum was why the demolition was done.
Residents stated that the minister’s statement did not help the situation, and was instead judged to be a recipe for chaos.
The source further revealed that it was when the village head, David Decker was booed while delivering his speech that everything went haywire – the lights went out, unprintable languages were used and missiles started raining from all directions. Seeing the pandemonium, residents disclosed, the minister and his entourage fled for safety.
Residents at 24 New London Street disclosed that their house was not only pelted with stones, but their properties were also looted.
They alleged that the looted items were found inside the car owned by the councilor’s husband.
The councilor is reportedly in hiding while her husband is presently helping the police with their investigation.
The residents explained that the said land which was illicitly grabbed by the councilor was given to the police.
