The Minister of Trade and Industry, Edward Hinga Sandy, said, two major clearing and forwarding agencies at the Queen Elizabeth Quay have brought down the cost of clearing and forwarding by 30%. The Minister said importers had issues with taxes and the process of clearing goods at the Quay. He revealed Leocem cement, which was sold at Le75,000 will now be sold at Le67,000 (retail price). Last year, cement was selling for Le45,000 per bag. He added that there are over 2.5 million bags of cement currently in the country. “I will ensure that the monitors are robust this time around,” he said. Apparently, the Ministry has trade monitors to monitor the prices in all market places and shops around town.
