A one-day regional consultative conference on the review and validation of the Civil Society Alternative Process in Sierra Leone has ended at the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy office at Reservation road in Kenema.
The conference attracted members from various civil society groups in Kenema and it environs.
The National Coordinator for the Civil Society Alternative Process Sierra Leone Mr. Fallah Ensah N’dema said that the conference was designed to get the views of members about the review owing to the formation of the social forum report.
He said that a national delegates conference and subsequent elections should be held later this month to form the national and regional executives.
He observed that the level of civil society participation in the governance process is low and the proliferation of these civil society groups have created little impact on the country.
Mr N’dema said that most civil society groups lack the requisite knowledge to engage authorities on issues that border on the development of the communities.
He noted that there is a need for civil society to consolidate it membership for effective functioning and advocacy. The Regional focal person for civil society groups eastern region Mr. Alex K. Kallon said that the regional border is working hard to see that things are done in the correct way for the benefit of the community.
He said that civil society will not relent and they will always act as the mouthpiece of the community on human right and issues relating to development.
