The managing director of the Freetown Cold Storage, Eric Djibo and the public affairs manager Alan Lewis yesterday presented a cheque of Le15 million to Andre T. Hope, the president of the Sierra Leone Athletics Association (SLAA).
The money, according to Mr Djibo, was the company’s sponsorship towards the cost of the Sierra Leone’s preparation for the upcoming Zone II Western Region Athletics Cadet Championships to be held in Freetown at the National Stadium on April 16-17.
Mr Djibo pointed out that the Freetown Cold Storage Company was very pleased to be taking a leading role in giving Sierra Leone’s young athletes every opportunity to represent their country with pride and honour.
He said, “the company has a long and well established track record in Sierra Leone” and that during that time had always endeavoured to play a meaningful and effective role in contributing towards the development and advancement of Sierra Leone in general and the young people in Sierra Leone in particular.
Mr Andre Hope on behalf of SLAA thanked the company for the cheque, noting that he was very pleased that the company was standing shoulder to shoulder with the association in its time of need.
Mr Andre Hope revealed that the Freetown Cold Storage had been the major sponsor of his association, informing that last year the team from Sierra Leone came back with seven gold medals, seven silver and five bronze medals, noting that these same athletes would be competing. He said the Cold Storage’s sponsorship was money well invested.
