Coach Mohamed Vangahun has disclosed to Awoko Sports how he started his volleyball career.
He said it all started in 1980 at the Holy Trinity primary school and later to the Government Secondary School in Kenema.
During his stay in Kenema he won several school trophies, and two years later he formed the Inner Circle Sports and Social Club.
He later returned to Freetown in 1984 and joined the Freetown Club of Oneness Volleyball team. During his time at Fourah Bay College (FBC), he captained the Davidson Hall where they were unbeaten for four years.
With his contribution at FBC team they were able to win the 1991 inter-college volleyball championship in Makeni.
In 1992 he was appointed captain of the Western Area male team which later toured the provinces alongside the S-L Brewery company team.
He started his coach career in 1993 with the eastern province female team, and that same year they won the Maltina inter-regional championship.
In December 1999, he received an international coaching diploma in volleyball from Hungary’s University of Physical Education (HUPE), Budapest.
