The Executive Director of Cleveland City Stars Dr Aaron Tredway who is currently in town has told Awoko Sports that his team Cleveland City Stars will play the national team Leone Stars next year during their pre-season tour which will bring them to Freetown.
He explained that he was in town on the invitation of the Sierra Leone International Football Association (SLIFA) disclosing that they have a Sierra Leonean player Sallieu Bundu in their team and that is why they want to build a strong relationship with Sierra Leone through football.
This is his first visit to Sierra Leone he said “so I am excited to see what potential opportunities will arise.”
Dr Tredway said they are planning to move Bundu to Europe in the next transfer window.
He mentioned that as a club they are also looking to import some of their American players to play in the local league in Freetown saying there are two players who have expressed interest in playing in the domestic league.
He stated that he is not expecting much from government only to build a strong relationship with them stating “we are a football team not politicians we are only here to serve your people we want to see Sierra Leone be a very strong football nation.”
He mentioned that they have recently bought a premier club in Kenya through one of their players Musa Otieno a captain of the Kenyan team for 12 years through partnership with his organization the Otieno foundation.
The Cleveland City Stars organization has now started a Nairobi City Stars which will be opened in January.
He mentioned that the two Sierra Leonean players playing in the American domestic league Kei Kamara and Sallieu Bundu are excelling in their league.
He disclosed that he has been in professional football for 15 years and had played in America, in Kenya, the South Africa premier league the Zambia premier league and some other leagues in the world.
He mentioned that he has been an assistant coach to the Zambian national team and football has been a great career to him adding that his playing days in Africa were very good.
He said if asked to organize a coaching course he will be open to that but he is not the head coach at Cleveland City Stars but as an Executive Director he has a UEFA licenses in coaching as a goal keeper coach as he was a goal keeper during his playing days.
He went further that he is looking forward to meet with the representative of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).
