The Freetown City Council (FCC) with support from Africell on Monday launched the Cotton Tree Beautification Project at the Cotton Tree site, in the central part of the city.
The Mayor of FCC, Herbert George Williams expressed gratitude to the management of Africell for their immense support to the council.
He said that, Africell has demonstrated that they are here to stay and ready to work for the people, adding that, Africell is the only mobile telecommunications company that has undertaken such project to beautify the city.
The Mayor further explained that, “the project has commenced and that it would be completed within six months”.
He noted that, after the completion of the project, “the Cotton Tree would attract tourist, as the project costs thousands of dollars.
He maintained that by next year the Cotton Tree would be so attractive that even if you have stress and come to the tree you will have relieved. Highlighting some of the projects to be undertaken, Williams said that the FCC in partnership with Share International would build a five star hotel in the country next year.
He also disclosed that a forty (40) storey building would be constructed at the site of the former City Hall.
“Under the leadership of President Koroma, the city would be an attractive place”, he affirmed.
Commercial Manager of Africell, Joe Amara Bangali, said that the beautification project is part of their cooperate responsibility and as such they had decided to partner with the FCC to beautify the Cotton Tree. He added that the tree is a historic site, a place where people have been offering prayers for a very long time.
