The Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone His Excellency Qiu Shaofang in an interview on
Tuesday disclosed that they would be engaging in cultural exchange programmes with Sierra Leone in the future.
Ambassador Qiu said the time is ripe for China to use culture in improving ties with Sierra Leone as China has been engaging
in other areas to help develop the country.
He said he would make sure that Acrobats, Martial Arts and Peking Opera come to Sierra Leone so they can exhibit their rich
culture to Sierra Leoneans.
The Ambassador said they have done a lot in the field of economy, infrastructure, education and finance, so the time is ripe
for them to also use culture and sports to help develop the country.
He said even though the Sports Council in Sierra Leone have not asked them for any help in sports, he will try to bring 10
volunteers to come and teach Chinese, Table Tennis, Badminton and Swimming.”We have been helping other countries in these
areas so we will do the same for Sierra Leone”, he said.
Ambassador Qiu Shaofang said they are ready to help in different sporting disciplines if the Sierra Leone Sports Council
wants them to as China is the leading country in many sports like Table Tennis, Badminton, Synchronized Diving, Weight
Lifting and volley ball.
He said the relationship between the two countries is so cordial that China wants to do more for Sierra Leone. This year
alone he said, over seven ministers visited China, the president too was there and journalists as well as youth groups all
went to China for economic and exchange programmes.
Commenting on the 60 years celebration, the Ambassador said it is through hard work and good leadership over the years that
China has become so successful and famous. ‘No country will succeed without a good leader that will unite his people and work
in their interest. China is successful today because since 60 years ago, they have been having quality leadership’, he said.
China will celebrate its 60 years on the 1st of October against the back drop of economic, social, financial, infrastructure
and peaceful rise that has brought them to the top of the ladder. The once ‘sick man of Asia’ is now the ‘big brother’ in
Asia.
