The newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Qiu Shaofang has met with the Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr Soccoh Kabia at his office.
Ambassador Shaofang expressed his country’s commitment to assist Sierra Leone in the areas of health, trade, education and economic development.
The ambassador observed that there is now peace and stability in the country and disclosed plans to assist the ministry with its post war health care challenges.
He said his predecessor’s interest in the proposed 100 beds integrative Chinese hospital complex which is to be constructed near COMAHS at Kossoh Town would be given serious attention and that plans are currently underway to kick-start the project.
The envoy assured the Minister of his support and cooperation at all times, hoping that the bilateral and cordial relationship between the two countries would grow from strength to strength.
In turn, Dr. Soccoh Kabia reiterated government’s commitment to provide its citizens affordable and accessible quality health care delivery services throughout the country.
The Minister spoke about the long standing relationship between the two countries and congratulated the Chinese for the developmental strides in various industries which he described as inspiring to other developing countries.
Dr. Kabia recalled the past and current Chinese socio-economic and infrastructural development assistance to Sierra Leone, citing the Youyi building, the national stadium, the Rotifunk hospital and other meaningful projects.
He expressed the urgent need for the speedy implementation of the proposed integrative ultra modern Chinese hospital at Kossoh town.
The minister also expressed the need to upgrade the Rotifunk hospital to a higher standard, and assured the envoy of a peaceful and comfortable stay in Sierra Leone
