
Sierra Leone was dubbed by Colonialists as the ‘White Man’s Grave” because of the prevalence of malaria, which up till now poses a serious health risk for it citizenry.
The Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Qui Shaofang has donated a huge consignment of malaria drugs-150mg Amodiaquin tabs- to the Health Ministry in the bid to fight this killer disease.
Receiving the consignment, the Minister of Health- Soccoh Kabia said, “we are very grateful for your consideration of the plight of our people.”
Malaria, he said, “is the biggest killer of our people.”
The Minister noted that the donation demonstrates China’s “concern for the health of the people of Sierra Leone.”
He explained that last year the government of Sierra Leone received medical consignment from the Chinese Government which was well appreciated.
He noted that the drugs would be distributed to every District in the country for effective utilization.
Responding, the Chinese envoy said the donation “is a symbol of the friendship of the two countries.”
He explained that the people of China want to see the people of Sierra Leone in good health.
“The donation is the kindness of the people and government of China,” he said.
He assured everyone of China’s continued support to the people of Sierra Leone.
