A local NGO “Child Fund Sierra Leone” is to implement a symbolic Reparation programme in Kenema district.
Speaking to the press in Kenema City the coordinator Dr. David Oyinga John of the Child Fund Sierra Leone disclosed that they are in Kenema city to implement part of the Reparation Programme stated in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Recommendations. He revealed that his organization is not new in the country adding that it has been re-branded from Christian Children Fund (CCF) to Child Fund Sierra Leone (CFSL) in order to address the problem of misconception.
He said in the past many people had perceived CCF as an organization that only caters for the welfare of Christian children.
Dr. John further stated that even though the organization has been re branded its aim and objective still remain the same adding they are still committed to their primary health aims and objectives which is to seek the welfare of children in the country.
In his contribution the Child Fund Sierra Leone Reparation project officer for Kenema district Linton Tucker said the programme is targeting the entire country and therefore asked for contributions from Sierra Leoneans especially those living in Kenema district to cooperate in the implementation of the symbolic Reparation project. He further disclosed that Child Fund Sierra Leone is now working for the actualization of the programme which is slated for the 2 and 3rd October this year.
Contributing the civil society representative in Kenema Madieu Barrie said part of the programme is to visit massive graves, clean the forests and perform some major traditional ceremonies to console all those who died during the rebel war and did not get a befitting burial ceremony.
