In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Brima Acha Kamara, the National Coordinator of Campaign for Good Governance (CGG) Valnora Edwin has called on the police to “maintain a neutral stance and maintain law and order without fear or favour.”
CGG expressed their deep concern about reported cases of lawlessness in the country citing the looting of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Head office, attacks on Nigerian nationals and senior members of the SLPP.
CGG noted that “in order to promote the rule of law in Sierra Leone which is one of the prerequisites for the advancement of good governance … the police … have the primary responsibility for protecting lives and property of all, within the boundaries of Sierra Leone, regardless of their party, ethnic, tribal and regional affiliations,”
CGG called on the Police “to speedily address the ongoing breakdown of law and order in some parts of the country in order to secure a smooth transition from one civilian government to another.”
