Dr. Saad Al-Barrak, Managing Director-Deputy Chairman of Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) which is the parent company of Celtel of which he is the group Chief Executive Officer arrives in Sierra Leone today on a one day visit.
Dr Al-Barrak is a distinguished engineer with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, an Msc in Systems Engineering from Ohio, and a PhD in Information Systems & Technology Management from the University of London.
He took up appointment with MTC in 2002
Before then Dr Al-Barrak was the MD of International Turnkey systems (ITS), where he helped to increase the company’s revenues from US$5million to over US$100 million in 5 years.
In 2003, he received the distinguished award for E-businessman of the year.
In 2005, he received the Middle East CEO of the year award in the IT and Communications sector.
Since Dr Al-Barrak took over in 2002 MTC’s customer base has increased from 600,000 to over 27 million active customers across the Middle East and Africa with a conglomerate of 20 operations. Dr Al-Barrak is expected to hold discussions with key government officials and end with a meeting with the staff of Celtel (SL).
