CECSHIP on community awareness sensitization
The centre for Encouraging Care and Support to HIV Positive People (CECSHIP) have started a community awareness raising and sensitization campaign in Joru town along the Kenema – Zimmi highway in the Gaura chiefdom Kenema district. Addressing his audience at the town barri, Chairman of the occasion, the town chief, Chief Bockarie Konneh thanked the organisers, the government and NGOs for extending such an educative programme to their community as it will make them be part of the development packages in the country. He revealed that the Joru community is one badly hit town in the chiefdom during the 11 year old war in the country. He then called on development agencies operating in the country to help the Joru community regain their past glory through development projects in the chiefdom. Speaking at the ceremony the Regional Coordinator CECSHIP George Massaquoi disclosed that he and his colleagues are HIV positive people, adding they now stand a better chance because they know their status. Mr. Massaquoi revealed that the impact mitigation project fund is funded by KFW through the National Aids Secretariat (NAS) in order to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS in the country. He pointed out that the Joru community was the hottest spot in the chiefdom during the war that almost serves as boundary for Gendema, Kenema and Segbwema. In his contribution the youth leader in Joru Francis Fogbeh said HIV is not a crime in any community adding that it is better to know their status than those who do not know their status. The programme was climaxed with a test to know the understanding of the masses about HIV.
