Sierra Leone’s Chief of Defense Staff, Major General Alfred Claude Nelson Williams has been singled out and awarded the “award of Distinguished Star Alumnus of the National Defense College of Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Major General Nelson Williams and Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff Air Chief Marshall Paul Dike were among other distinguish foreign nationals from seven other countries including, United Kingdom, Brazil, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Lesotho and Uganda who received the awards amidst thunderous applause at the Sani Abacha Hall at the Defense College in Abuja.
According to Commandant of Federal Republic of Nigeria’s National Military College Rear Admiral J G. Jonah, there are 38 recipients in four different categories of Awards.
The different Awards include, Fellow of War College, Fellow of the Defense College, Distinguish Alumnus of the Defense College and Distinguished Star Alumnus of the Defense College.
The ranks and number of beneficiaries include One Air Chief Marshall, two Rear Admirals, One Air Marshall, one Air Vice Marshall, One Vice admiral, One Lieutenant General, two major Generals, seven Brigadier Generals, two Colonels, six Air commanders, seven commanders, one Group Captain, one Captain, one Security Minister and four accredited Ambassadors, all of whom are products of The National Defense College of Nigeria, (former war college).
Recipients include distinguished senior serving Military officers who are holding very senior positions in different capacities in different Military institutions from different parts of Africa, Europe and South American.
The two chiefs of Defense staffs of Sierra Leone and Nigeria belongs to one of the categories: “Award of Distinguish Star Alumnus of the Defense College”
They were awarded because they have highly distinguished themselves in their career and professionalism. “The two officers are achievers who have not only won the confidence of their Countries, but have actually shown loyalty to their employers as was expected by lecturers of the war college. They have also shared their knowledge, through several published and yet to be published materials, they made available on request to the college. .
They have not only worked in different command structures and excellently performed their duties in their respective countries, but also outside their countries.
The Commandant Rear Admiral J G. Jonah said the Board of Governors, faculty and staff of the National Military College not only welcome the Chief of Defense Staff of Sierra Leone, Major General Alfred Claude Nelson Williams , but also considered it a privilege and great honour, for him to be in their midst not only as a product of the former War College, but as one of the two products selected “to be recognized in the full view of the world that during his tenure as student of Course Nine, drank from the rich fountain of intellectual knowledge and military wisdom that flows from the college programs.
