Former renowned Sports Writer and FIFA recognized Linesman, Bundu Hayes has boosted both St. Edwards Secondary School and Prince of Wales Secondary School with full sets of football jerseys and footballs at ceremonies held on Friday, March 2, 2012 at the respective schools.
At the St. Edwards Secondary School, it was the National Olympic Committee (NOC) President, Henry G. Moore who presented the donated items on behalf of Bundu Hayes.
Making the presentation to the Principal of the JSS, Johnson Cole, Mr. Moore said even though Mr. Hayes did not attend the school, he decided to donate to the school in the spirit of the game and to motivate young boys to play the game as a part of their physical exercise.
He noted that Mr. Hayes “has the school at heart” as the school is doing well both in education and in sports.
Mr. Moore commended Bundu Hayes for his “kind hearted gesture” and called on others to emulate his philanthropy towards the young people of the country.
Receiving the sporting gears on behalf of the school, the Principal, Johnson Cole thanked Bundu Hayes for the gesture, assuring that the gears will be used for its intended purpose.
The ceremony was replicated at the Prince of Wales Secondary School with the donations presented by renowned sports commentator, Zuher Kudsy
Speaking to this press from USA, Bundu Hayes said the purpose of focusing his attention on sports is practically because “I love the game” he said, noting that he has turned his attention to schools because he wants the young boys to as well love and play the game, noting that physical exercise is good for the mental development of young people in schools.
He assured of his continuous assistance to schools that may be finding it difficult to promote the game due to financial difficulty.
Hayes made reference to Oprah Winfrey who he said built a school in South Africa for under privileged girls who may be vulnerable to exploitation to build their capacities to participate in national development. He said his contribution towards national development is to improve the physical abilities of young people through football.
He expressed profound gratitude to people like Ralph Gerege, Klein Soccer Club, and Keith Kouba and Soccer Sport for their contributions. He promised to also assist schools and young people in the provinces.
