Ibrahim Bundu, the brother of Chernor Abass Bundu, Speaker of Parliament, testified on Monday 5 August 2019, against Alpha Sulaiman Bundu, brother to both individuals before Magistrate Mark Ngeba at the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 2 on Pademba Road in Freetown. Police alleged on Saturday, 16th February 2019, Alpha used abusive and insulting language against Chernor Abass Bundu, Speaker of Parliament. Alpha was charged with insulting language contrary to Section 3 of the Public Order Act No. 46 of 1965. According to the witness, Ibrahim Bundu, brother to both Alpha and Abass, recalled Saturday 16th February 2019, when Abass invited him to his residence to hear a report from Assiatu Tarr, their little sister in respect of what Alpha had told him about Abass. Ibrahim Bundu said Assiatu told him and Abass that Alpha said Abass had denied him a job, which the President arranged. He said he will disgrace Abass and tarnish his character.

Assiatu further explained to Abass and Ibrahim Bundu that he will expose him and scandalize the Speaker. Adding that the video of Abass that was making the rounds on social media “is just the smoke and the fire is on the way”. Ibrahim Bundu said Assiatu asked Alpha if this was a threat, and if they should convey to Abass. Alpha responded with a yes. Ibrahim Bundu and Abass advised Assiatu to report the matter to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which she did. On the 12 March 2019, Ibrahim Bundu said he reported the matter at the Gbinty Police Station, and later at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Lead defense counsel, S. Nicol, objected on the grounds of hearsay. The Magistrate overruled her. Nicol said everything Ibrahim Bundu said in court was just hearsay. She said Ibrahim Bundu was not present when Alpha made all of those utterances to Assiatu for them to be conveyed to Abass. During cross-examination of Ibrahim Bundu, he said all what he had said to the Court was hearsay when asked by Lawyer Nicol. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Hawa Bah, prosecuted the matter. More witnesses are expected to testify. Meanwhile, the case was adjourned to 12th August 2019.
