In another development the Publicity Secretary of the National Cricket Association Bocakrie Alieu has disclosed to Awoko Sports that the association is trying to build a female national team that will be representing Sierra Leone in international competitions.
He said after the national male team took part in the competition in South Africa it was the mandate from the International Cricket Council (ICC) to start female cricket team which the executive wasted no time but to start.
Alieu mentioned that the female cricket players have started intensive training for the past four weeks now and they have been able to learn a lot of skills from Coach Cyril Panda.
He mentioned that they are trying to organize a league for them in September and by then more female players should have come on board who will participate in the league and the players in the league will form part of the national team.
He stated that they have tried to divide the female players into two groups – the ones who know the game and the other group is those who do not know the game.
The reason for that according to Alieu is that they are having new players every day and they cannot be repeating the same thing over and over as those who have known better will proceed forward to another stage in the game and by then they will start to use the hard ball.
The Publicity Secretary noted that presently they have had over 40 female players and as the week goes by they are going to increase
He mentioned that since they started training every Friday they played against the U-14 male cricket team who are very outstanding and the female training is building a serious momentum.
He noted that the President and the coach are doing everything possible to make Sierra Leone female cricket be one of the best in the sub region when they start their international assignment.
