The British Minister For Africa The Rt Hon Lord Malloch-Brown has congratulated the people of Sierra Leone for a free and fair elections last Saturday.
“I would like to congratulate the people of Sierra Leone on a peaceful and successful polling day and hope that this patience and tolerance will continue ahead of, and following, the announcement of provisional and certified results.
“The successful role played by the National Electoral Commission and the Sierra Leone Police in the preparation and on the day itself was absolutely crucial. Both domestic and international Election Observer Missions agree that the elections have so far been open and genuinely contested, impressively organised, and represent a positive step towards building a sustainable democracy in Sierra Leone.
“I urge party leaders and supporters to maintain this calm and openness throughout the rest of the election process, and to wait and prepare to accept the results announced by the NEC.”
