The Bonthe Municipality Council is going through difficulties due to lack of adequate office space and running cost.
According to the Bonthe Municipal Council Administrator, Munda Baker who spoke to Awoko recently, the Bonthe Municipality had been operating on a meager fund raised from tax collection which could not even support a day’s running of the council.
He lamented that the council only collected Le240, 000.00 per month which was not sufficient to run the council and pay some of its staff, as the government subsidy to the council from the ministry of Local Government and Community Development had not been forthcoming for over eight months now.
Mr Baker however noted that as a council they were committed to providing the municipality with basic necessities, adding that several efforts had been made to urge the central government for prompt payment of subsidies to the council.
He also made mention of some abandoned projects by contractors within the Island, such as the Bonthe police station and council administrative building.
