Councilor Mohamed Wurie Jalloh, Chairman Education Committee has told Awoko that Secondary Schools in the city of Bo are in desperate need of ‘rehabilitation and Teaching and Learning Materials.” This problem he said affects all the 37 Secondary schools in the city.
This he said is the cause of the floundering education in the District as most of the schools haven’t got enough space to accommodate the growing number of Secondary School in-take in the region. He explained that storms over the years destroyed many schools in the region and the roofs need repairs. What compounds the situation he explained was the lack of total maintenance culture in almost all the schools.
“Principals always complain of sitting accommodation and number of buildings,” he stated. Urbanization, he explained has led to the high in-take of pupils but with no space for improvement on the available buildings in the schools.
As for the Teaching/Learning Materials he explained that government is far from achieving its aim of a text book to a student and that without this, education will still be where it is at present.
