The Bo Government Hospital has set a precedent in becoming the first Government Hospital within the country to be computerized.
The Computer Room which was opened by Dr Samuel Pieh of West Africa Fistula Foundation has also got an Internet Connectivity.
The aim of the Computer and Internet inception at the hospital is to transform the hospital into a modern Health Care Institution by equipping the Health workers with the skills necessary to provide quality and efficient health-service delivery-care to the community. S P Koroma, Chairman of the occasion and also the District Health Superintendent and sole entrepreneur to the venture explained that the hospital “is under new administration and with a new idea.” He opined that the computer and internet facility would “increase the knowledge of the practitioners at the hospital. With the facility, doctors, nurses and other practitioners could stay at the hospital and communicate with any professor abroad on things pertaining medical profession. He stated that we “are now in a computer age”, and for which “Bo Government hospital should not be left out.”
The invention he said could also allow “proper data collection.” The hospital which is the second largest health service deliverer in the country is “setting a precedent for all others to follow”.
The Resident Minister South, Musa Tarawally disclosed that Dr Koroma is one of the few Sierra Leoneans to undertake such venture from personal funds. The purpose of the breakthrough, he said, is to improve the deplorable health situation in the region. He said that he has always feared getting sick and having to be admitted at the hospital, as it seems “people die more at the hospitals than in the homes.” He called for a u-turn in the situation as history is being made at the hospital. He asked all users to properly use the facility to reduce death rates in that part of the country.
