Bo diamond tycoon harvests half a million acres of rice

Harvesting of 500 acres of rice field at Hilma, Lugbu Chiefdom, Bo District owned by Bo popular diamond magnate, Alusine Kamara of 65 Mahei Boima Road Diamond Office is now in full swing.
The harvesting comes as no surprise as a giant Combined Harvester; hundreds of harvesting equipment have been procured with a multi million stores built well ahead of the ongoing harvesting. 
Speaking to Awoko News, Alusine Kamara said his utmost objective is to boost the agricultural sector contributing to the national economy by increasing productivity with the view of facilitating and strengthening the productive capacities of small and medium scale farmers.
This approach, Alusine Kamara went on will go a long way in poverty reduction and thus eradicating hunger in Lugbu Chiefdom in particular and Sierra Leone as a whole.
He said that over 30 labourers are currently being deployed at the farm site with another 30 employed at his numerous business ventures in Bo alone.
The land, he went on was leased and that 25 acres were cultivated for the land owning families who were further provided with seed rice including cash to help them in their farm work.
The diamond magnate in turn spoke of ongoing plans to boost both the diamond industry and his new investments in agriculture to help revamp the economy.
For his part, Hilma Kam Agricultural Enterprise Technical Supervisor, Ken Sesay, who also doubles as MAFFS Block Supervisor for Lugbu, Tikonko and Bagbo Chiefdoms said the rice farm will produce high yield as the rice is doing very well.
He in turn praised the variety adding that the soil is indeed very fertile as no fertiliser was applied.
