In another surprise announcement from the President’s office yesterday the Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General Alfred Nelson-Williams has been sent on terminal leave
Major-General Nelson-Williams having served the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) since 2008 as its head is to be replaced by Brigadier Robert Yira Koroma who was previously second in command.
His elevation is further linked with a promotion to the rank of Major General.
Stepping into the office of Brigadier Yira Koroma as Deputy Chief of Defence Staff is Brigadier Samuel Omar Williams, who was formerly Commander Joint Force.
Former Assistant Chief of Defence Staff in charge of Support and Logistics Brigadier Mohamed Alie Sesay has been appointed as the new Commander Joint Forces. The President’s proclamation was in accordance with the provisions of Section 168 (1) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone 1991 (Act 6 of 1991), and upon the advice of the Defence Council.
Briefing the media about the changes, Defence Minister Alfred Palo Conteh disclosed that all other promotions will be done internally.
Addressing media personnel the out gone CDS, said “the move taken by the President is the will of God,” stressing that he appreciated the cooperation of the President during his tenure of office.
He however advised Officers not to get themselves involved in coups as “it would not be appreciated by the people of this country, indicating that the people of Sierra Leone are no longer interested in coups.
Responding to media questions about his achievements, he stressed, “its better for posterity to judge.”
