School kids within Charlotte village are beaming with smiles, as their counterparts in London had raised a whooping sum of one thousand four hundred pounds, to enhance their education.
The gesture came from St. Augustine Catholic Primary School after the visit of a teacher Emily Allen, who graced the 50th anniversary last year, and paid a visit to the village and saw the deplorable condition under which the children are schooling.
The donation of the sum was made through the Charlotte Development Organization under the chairmanship of Modu Conteh, who in turn provided school materials for the children of the village.
Apart from the school package, the 36 beneficiaries also had buckets, toiletries, and football at the presentation ceremony past weekend.
According to chairlady Modu Conteh, she was extremely delighted that the school kids at St. Augustine Catholic Primary school could contribute such an amount for their less deprived counterparts in Sierra Leone.
“My sincere thanks and appreciation to the headteacher Carmel Smith for embarking on such a wonderful venture on just an appeal from a teacher who visited the village,” she opined, stressing on “we are very grateful as these are the donors we are looking forward to receive”.
However, the inhabitants of Charlotte Village are crying loud for government to intervene and save the only bridge into their village from collapsing despite the fact that very soon the Chinese would embark on the construction of a dam within the village.
