Sierra Leone: As part of its 75th anniversary of autonomy, the Bible Society of Sierra Leone will on Saturday 1st May 2021 embark on a “Mary Jones Walk.”
The walk which is being held in honor of Mary Jones came after the Society launched its Independence Bible, which contains, among other things, the history of Sierra Leone, Biographies of heroes of Sierra Leone, history of the Churches in the country and some notable dates, at the Radisson Blu Hotel at Aberdeen in Freetown.
The aforementioned bible is sold at Le 500,000, and is available at the Society’s headquarters at Congo Cross in Freetown.
The walk depict the Mary Jones story of a girl who saved money for six years and walked for 25 miles to obtain a Bible in her own language giving birth to the establishment of Bible Societies all over the world.
The walk will start from the National Stadium, Syke Street Entrance unto the Radisson Blu Garden, Lumley Beach. Walk starts at 8:00 a.m. Registration is at the Bible Society’s Office, 2 Signal Hill Road, Congo Cross from 8:30 – 4:30 Monday’s to Fridays.
Registration fee is Le80,000 for Adults and Le50,000 for children. Registration will cover: 1 T-Shirt and wrist band, water, beverages and snack. Also at the end of the walk, present your wrist band and you get 1 (one) free Bible.
The Society therefore calls on all Christians as well as non-Christians to join the walk which according to them gave birth to bible societies across the world, hence the spread and promotion of the culture of reading the Holy Bible in different languages.
