Dr. Sylvia Blyden, Awareness Times Publisher was issued a bench warrant yesterday by the Presiding Magistrate Steven Conteh of Court No. 1 for appearing late in court.
When the Director of Public Prosecution Robin Mason called the matter the accused (Dr. Blyden) was not in court so DPP applied for bench warrant which was executed.
Easmon Ngakui, Defense lawyer was about to make an application and to apologize for himself and his client for their absence when the matter was called by the DPP but the Magistrate replied that he will not let him until the DPP comes back and that the matter has been adjourned to the 26th May 2009.
After so many matters had been called in court the Magistrate called the matter for the second time and lawyer Easmon Ngakui apologized for himself and Dr. Blyden for arriving late in court and that he respected the court proceedings.
The Magistrate now responded that the court sitting started at 9:am but the accused was not in court.
He also asked if it was because he granted the accused a lenient bail that was the reason of her coming late in court.
Dr Blyden’s bail condition was reviewed from self bail to Le 50 Million with two Sureties.
The Matter was adjourned to the 26th May.
