The Believers Broadcasting Network a Christian radio station has yesterday opened a counseling centre for people that are depressed, in anger, pre-marital and marital counseling to name but just a few. The programme which took place at the newly renovated place attracted staff of the radio station, well wishers and members of the press.
Giving his statement the managing director of BBN Mr. Ransford Wright said that ”This venture emphasizes our vision that BBN is more than just a radio, we are a distinguished medium set out to demonstrate the love of God to a dying world”. He went further to say that they conducted a random sampling and needs assessment survey in 2005 to ascertain audience needs, it was then the need for the Someone Really Cares (SRC) programme in February 2006. With the increase in calls and missed calls during the programme it became imminent that the SRC programme by itself cannot adequately cater for the counseling need, hence the need for a counseling center.
He also said that the center will be open from 9:am to 5:30 pm Mondays to Fridays and half day on Saturdays, and a 24 hours dedicated phone line will be set up. He ended by saying that although the center is a Christian outfit, but it is still open to everyone without discrimination.
Making a statement on behalf of the Minister of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs, the deputy professional head Mr. Joseph Sunday Sinnah said that the opening of the center is timely considering the traumatic situation people are going through, since the end of the war there has been no psycho-social counseling center but the opening of the center will help a lot.
The center was dedicated by his Lordship Bishop J. Archibald Cole and the official launching was done by Brother Nate Dell, from the HCJB Global.
