Basketball stakeholders in Makeni are calling on government to lift the COVID-19 induced ban on sports, which has been going on for five months now. According to the Public Relations Officer of Basketball in Makeni, Joseph Kamara, the ban has affected them greatly as they are unable to organise local competitions that would keep players in good shape and form. “This is not good for the game.”
He said the ban on all sporting activities in the country on 17th March 2020 has affected them greatly, citing it as why they need government to rethink the ban. Kamara said most basketball players take the sport as the career they use to take care of their families, “so sports not being played have made it very difficult for the players during this COVID-19 period”.
