Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – The outgoing executives of the Sierra Leone Basketball Federation (SLBF) have officially handed over the mantle of leadership to the new executives for the next four years at a ceremony held on Friday 8th December 2023, at the NOC’s Walpole Street office in Freetown..
The outgoing President Joseph Nyande described the handing over as a historic day for the basketball family, leading the process wherein, sensitive documents were comprehensively explained and handed over.
He further congratulated the newly elected executive and also seized the opportunity to wish them the very best and reassured them that his hands are always open to support, considering his experience with this sport and executive.
After receiving the documents, President Ali Hijazi thanked the outgoing President and his executive for their great work and assured them that the new executive will follow their blueprint.
He reiterated that his executive is going to put emphasis on organizing basketball competition around the different regions and bring the sport to the level it should be, stating that his executive is aware of all the existing challenges and would put them top of the list to be addressed.
“We have to go again through a process, we have to analyze, and we have to do more coaching courses; bring more coaches in and also bring in scouts. All of these are things that are available for us to access, all we have to do is to ask FIBA Africa or NBA Africa that we want a Coaching Course, referees’ course they will do everything for us, but we have to start everything fresh,” he noted.
