Sierra Leone’s Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), Dr. David M. Sengeh in a Facebook post has said he will be facing Parliament on Tuesday 1st December 2020. Sengeh said as Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, he will use the opportunity to update the Honourable Members on government’s flagship Free Quality School Education policy’s successes and challenges so far.
“It’ll be a true honour to engage our lawmakers on a topic I think about every day; a dream to invite the people’s representatives to imagine with us a transformation in education for our children; and a privilege to invite them to join us in this process across the aisle,” he maintained.
He furthered that he would also let the MPs know that the 2004 Education Act is outdated and in his agenda for delivery in the next six months. “One thing I have been very very excited about over the last few weeks is that our people are finally engaging with discussions on education and learning outcomes.”
Sengeh’s invitation came after Parliament had earlier summoned him to discuss reasons for the massive failure in this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results and other matters. Among the MPs that made the request is the Kono MP who disclosed in Parliament that out of over 15,000 pupils who sat WASSCE in Kono, “no one made it up to enter university.”
