The Sierra Leone Bar Association, in a press release, stated that it viewed with concern the recent spate of widespread violence perpetrated by irate youths against members of the former ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and foreigners, following the announcement of the run-off results.
The Bar Association said it unequivocally condemned the conduct of those youths who, by all indications, were nothing but common criminals.
The association called on the government to do all in its power to ensure the safety of Sierra Leone and its people; pointing out that now was a period of transition which must be used to reflect on the past, for the future development of the country and not a time for war.
“In this regard, the Sierra Leone Police is requested to do all it takes to protect lives and property of the people of this country,” it noted.
The release went on to state that the police should also ensure that all those who were perpetrating violence were arrested, investigated and charged accordingly.
The release also appealed to all those involved in such unbecoming conduct to desist forthwith lest they incur the full wrath of the law.
